In between jagged desertscape, rattlesnake dens, and lechuguilla fields lies a cave system so spacious, there’s few like it in the whole world. Speleologists are quick to point out the spectacular cave features scattered from room after room. The “Big Room” boasts the title of the 28th largest chamber in the world and hosts such cave icons as Temple of the Sun, The Caveman, and Rock of Ages. Even Ansel Adams thought Carlsbad was groovy, and he had to visit to snap a few photos. And if stalactites don’t do it for you, maybe the cave’s half-a-million bats will.
