Legend has it that two great Klamath spirits once battled on the fabled Mt. Mazama. The Below-World bent on destruction pitted against the Above-World sent to defend the people. Their clash spewed both fire and rock, and it covered the country side in darkness for days. Given strength by the brave Klamath people, the Above fought back the Below and collapsed the mountain to entomb the spirit for eternity. Wanting peace, the victorious spirit filled the crater with a beautiful indigo lake we see now.
